Get connected!  Get to know your community and learn what to do to help yourself, your family members and your neighbors during a disaster. Harstine Fire Adaptive Community’s (HIFAC), goal is to promote, educate and prepare our residents for dangers or disasters that may occur. Become involved in your neighborhood and community. Upcoming Events

  • HIFAC Disaster Preparation Continues

First Aid - CPR class at the Harstine Island Community Club was held on Saturday, January 10th from 3:00 to 6:00. The class was taught by Eunice Randall, Mason County Fire.

  • HIFAC Disaster Preparation

On Saturday February 7th we will have another great class that could be life saving for a member of your family, a neighbor or yourself. Please join the Disaster Prep team for an informative & energetic presentation by Brandon Heggie, Captain Central Mason Fire, at 08:45 AM until 11:30  in the HPMA clubhouse gazebo. Its my understanding that Brandon teaches an amazing, informative, hands on and comprehensive class on Stop the Bleed protocols that are saving lives in Mason County and worldwide. The class will be held in the Harstine Pointe Marina Gazebo so dress warm, bring your notebooks, a cup and the makings for a hot beverage.

The plan is to learn and practice the new Stop the Bleed protocols and then shift to discussing Go Bags, if time permits. We believe we will have about 30 minutes at the end to review to go over Go Bags, so plan on bringing your incomplete bag to learn from Dr. States and your neighbors what makes sense to have and what you may want to add. Everyone is encouraged to attend, supervised school age children 6 & older are welcome to participate.

Please let me know by Email ASAP if you plan on attending so we can probably plan for this event.

As with the Wet Fire Drill, I will send you detailed instructions a few days before the class on how to get thru the gate and a map with guidance to the Marina Gazebo.

Who is Harstine Island Fire Adapted Community (HIFAC)?

Harstine Island Fire Adapted Community (HIFAC) is a 501(c)(3) organization staffed by volunteers based here on Harstine Island. Our primary focus is to educate Island residents on wildfire prevention and how to mitigate wildfire damage to homes and property. Our partnership with agencies like Central Mason Fire & EMS (CMFE) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) allows us to utilize tools and resources in support of our outreach to Island residents. We are officially part of Washington Fire Adapted Communities (WAFAC) which gives us to access statewide resources.

HIFAC has developed programs to help prepare our community for the dangers and challenges posed by wildfires. As part of this effort, HIFAC has instituted voluntary Home Fire Assessments for Island residents, held annual “Chipper Day” events for deposal of residential yard waste, and are working in conjunction with CMFE and DNR to institute Island evacuation plans during fire emergency.

HIFAC depends on fund raising events, grants, and donations to support its activities.

Our meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month at 7pm at Harstine Island Community Hall. Please visit our website at HIFAC.org for upcoming events and activities. We welcome your participation and input.
